TCL has begun releasing a major software update for its recent Google TV range, adding new Dolby picture and audio capabilities while also resolving a long-standing Disney+ sound issue affecting some premium home theatre setups.

The new firmware, known as v643, is being pushed to TCL Google TVs from 2023 through to 2025 that use the Pentonic 700 processor. Supported models include the QM6K, QM7K and QM8K series, while TCL’s upcoming 2026 televisions already include the upgrades out of the box.

One of the headline additions is Dolby Vision Filmmaker Mode, which replaces the previous Dolby Vision Dark preset. The new mode is designed to present films more naturally in darker viewing environments by reducing excessive image processing and preserving cinematic colour and contrast more accurately.

TCL has also widened support for Dolby Atmos FlexConnect, Dolby’s wireless speaker platform that allows compatible speakers to pair directly with the television. Earlier versions supported up to four wireless speakers, but the latest update now adds compatibility for TCL’s Z100-SW wireless subwoofer, helping users create more immersive surround sound setups without relying on traditional AV receivers.

Another important change addresses a bug affecting Disney+ playback on some TCL televisions. Certain IMAX Enhanced titles using DTS:X audio were previously unable to switch correctly between Dolby Atmos and DTS:X tracks. TCL says the issue has now been resolved, restoring proper audio selection for compatible films including Marvel titles and Tron: Ares.

The update also continues TCL’s recent pattern of extending support for older televisions through software improvements rather than limiting major features to new hardware releases. Previous updates introduced Android 14 support and HDMI 2.1 Quick Media Switching enhancements to existing models.

The v643 firmware is already rolling out gradually, with broader availability expected over coming weeks for eligible TCL Google TV owners.
