![]() “He has extensive experience as a Chairman and CEO of large publicly listed companies as well as an intrinsic understanding of retailing and businesses with a strong customer centric focus,” David Jones Deputy Chair, Jan Harvey, said.
The appointment is part of a Board Renewal announced on 10 February last.
Current Chair Peter Mason yesterday gave notice of his resignation as Chairman and member of the Board, after a share trading scandal forced him and another two Directors to step down.
Harvey said, “we are grateful for Peter Mason’s dedicated service, leadership and counsel during his time on the Board and wish him every success in his future roles,” said Harvey. Cairns said he welcomes “the opportunity to join the Board as Chairman and looks forward to working closely with the directors and management to deliver shareholder value.”
The newcomer is already campaigning CEO Paul Zahra to stay on, following his departure plans announced last year, reports Fairfax.
He has a Masters of Arts (Honours) from the University of Edinburgh and possesses extensive Australian and international experience as a senior executive in the consumer goods sector including PepsiCo, and Cadbury Schweppes, according to a company statement.
“We look forward to working closely with Gordon and the management team to continue the successful implementation of the Company’s Future Strategic Direction Plan,” Harvey, said.
