The poor battery life of iPhones has always been an issue, with the pain of not getting through a whole day without a recharge being a hassle for many, especially those that find it a hassle to carry a portable charger around everywhere.
Now Apple have decided to share their tips on how to get the most out of an iPhone’s battery – and it’s mostly down to removing your case while charging.
This is due to the fact some cases could generate excess heat, which can affect battery capacity.
This could all come down to the material the case is made from, or its thickness.
If you’re using a leather case, it’s a better insulator than silicon, leaving your device more prone to overheating while charging.
Apple boil this down with the advice, “If you notice your device gets hots when you charge it, take it out of its case first.”
In general, avoid extreme temperatures, which can cause the device to change behaviour. Ideally, you want your iPhone between 16.6°C and 22.2°C.
Colder temperatures can lead to temporary battery-life shortening, while higher can alter it permanently. So don’t leave it in direct sunlight for long periods.
Certain features also aren’t ideal in hot conditions or direct sunlight, such as GPS tracking or navigation in your car, using AR apps, or playing a graphics-heavy game.
If you feel your device heating up, stop using it or turn it off.
