Standards Australia has launched a four-year federally-funded AI project with publication of a discussion paper, dubbed Developing Standards for Artificial Intelligence: Hearing Australia’s Voice.
It will be followed by national consultation in major capital cities in coming weeks, heralding its Artificial Intelligence Roadmap Report 2019.
Standards Australia has said it will summarise the discussions and “provide practical actionable steps that Australian stakeholders can take, through the standards process, to make their voices heard globally [and] will factor into consideration work already under way at a global level.”
It is one component of a four-year package announced in the May 2018 Federal Budget, designed to strengthen Australia’s capability in AI and machine learning. Other components are an AI Ethics Framework and an AI Technology Roadmap from Data61.
Standards Australia says it aims to harness the responsible use of AI, and claims the move was prompted by the growing use of AI and by conversations around unlocking its true benefits
