Spotify Dumps Support For Apple’s Safari Browser

Spotify users are no longer able to stream music through Apple’s Safari browser.

The Spotify web player page now displays the message “This browser doesn’t support Spotify” when viewed through Safari, and users are directed to switch browsers or download the Spotify app.

Users discovered the change late last week, with no notice from Spotify as to why the default browser for Mac computers was not listed alongside the other compatible browsers: Chrome, Firefox, Edge and Opera.

“We can confirm that after recent updates Safari is no longer a supported browser for Web Player,” Spotify told one user.

Reports suggest the change may be due to a copy protection plugin that is not compatible with Safari, but Spotify has not officially commented on the issue.

It is not currently known whether support for the Spotify web player on Safari will be added again in the future.
