Sony WH-1000XM6 Headphones Tipped For New Colour As Gaming Update Rolls Out
Sony looks set to expand its WH-1000XM6 headphone range again – shortly after adding low-latency GMAP gaming support – with new import filings suggesting a sixth colour option is in the works.
The documents, first spotted by The Walkman Blog, reference Sony’s WH-1000XM6 under the product code YY2984, alongside listings for WH1000XM6/GME. The records describe the device as a wireless noise-cancelling stereo headset, with some units marked as samples for quality and testing.
The filings reportedly include shipments dated 24 February 2026 and list destinations including Vietnam, Indonesia and India, suggesting Sony has already begun moving evaluation units across several markets ahead of a possible launch.
While the documents do not confirm the final colour name, they repeatedly use the designation “G”. The Walkman Blog believes that is more likely to stand for green than gold, partly because Sony already sells green versions of products such as the LinkBuds Fit and LinkBuds Clip.
If confirmed, the new finish would become the sixth colour option for the WH-1000XM6. Sony’s flagship over-ear headphones are already available in black, platinum silver, midnight, sand pink and sandstone, giving the current generation a broader colour range than previous 1000X models.
The colour refresh would build on Sony’s WH-1000XM6 launch last year, when the company claimed a new standard for noise-cancelling headphones with its upgraded QN3 processor, 12-microphone ANC system and return to a foldable design.
The new version is not expected to bring any hardware changes. That means the headphones will have the same noise-cancelling platform, high-resolution audio support, foldable design and claimed 30-hour battery life with active noise cancellation switched on.
The possible new colour follows a recent firmware update for the WH-1000XM6, which added support for Bluetooth LE Audio’s Gaming Audio Profile, or GMAP.
The feature is designed to reduce wireless audio latency to under 40 milliseconds on compatible source devices, making the headphones more useful for mobile, PC and handheld gaming.
Sony has not officially announced the new WH-1000XM6 colour and import filings do not always guarantee an immediate release.
