Sony Teases New Flagship Midrange Camera, Alpha A7 V
Sony is set to unveil its next flagship midrange mirrorless camera, the Alpha 7 V, with an official announcement scheduled for December 2.
The tease appeared on Sony Alpha’s Instagram account, featuring the words ‘Chase your dream’ alongside a prominent ‘V’, which is probably a nod to the A7 V.
The silhouette of a familiar Alpha camera body in the post hints at a design closely resembling the A7 IV (pictured below), launched in 2021.
The A7 V represents Sony’s first new A7 model since the A7 IV. Early leaks suggest it could offer serious competition to rivals like Canon’s EOS R series and Nikon’s Z6 III.
Rumours suggest the A7 V will feature a 33-megapixel full-frame “partially stacked” sensor, potentially offering faster readout speeds, improved image stabilisation and a dedicated AI chip for enhanced subject detection and autofocus tracking.

Photographers may also benefit from 4K video at up to 120fps, along with continuous shooting at 30fps in electronic shutter mode.
The camera is expected to include 8 stops of in-body image stabilisation (IBIS), a free-angle tilting 3.2-inch touchscreen LCD, an improved 5.6 million-dot electronic viewfinder and dual USB-C ports, replacing the older micro-USB connection. Storage options will include one SD slot and a hybrid SD/CFexpress Type A slot.
Early leaks indicate the A7 V could retail for around €2,999 (A$4,800), with preorders potentially opening on the same day as the announcement. A limited batch may ship before Christmas.
Sony is also expected to launch at least three new lenses alongside the camera, including a 100-400mm f/4 GM, a 100-400mm G variable aperture and an ultra-wide-angle f/2 GM zoom.
