Sony PlayStation Portal OLED Rumours Heat Up Following New Wi-Fi Certifications
Sony could be preparing to launch an upgraded PlayStation Portal handheld, with two previously unannounced PlayStation devices appearing in Wi-Fi Alliance certification records.
The discovery has sparked speculation that Sony is working on refreshed versions of its game-streaming handheld, potentially including a model equipped with an OLED display.
Rumours of an OLED PlayStation Portal first emerged earlier this year, suggesting Sony could be planning to improve the handheld’s screen technology without making major changes to its core functionality.
The appearance of two unidentified PlayStation products in the certification database has added weight to those rumours, although the documents do not confirm whether either device is a new Portal model.

Wi-Fi Alliance certification is generally required before wireless devices can be released commercially, meaning such filings can provide an early indication that new hardware is approaching launch.
However, certification records typically reveal little about a product’s design, specifications or intended market, leaving plenty of uncertainty surrounding Sony’s plans.
The existing PlayStation Portal features an 8-inch LCD display and was originally designed to let users stream games from their PS5 console over a Wi-Fi connection.
An OLED upgrade could deliver improved contrast, deeper blacks and more vibrant colours, bringing the handheld’s display technology closer to that found in other premium portable gaming devices.
It remains unclear whether Sony is planning a straightforward screen upgrade or a more substantial hardware refresh with additional improvements.
The company has yet to officially acknowledge the two certified products or announce plans for a new PlayStation Portal.
For now, the filings suggest Sony has new PlayStation-branded hardware in development, but whether that includes the long-rumoured OLED Portal remains to be seen.
