Sony’s Next Smartphone A “Completely New Design”

For some consumers, Sony’s mobile phones have long been perceived old-fashioned and stock-standard  – though recent news has revealed the company intends to change the design for its next generation of phones.

Kenichiro Hibi, Sony’s Indian Managing Director, states of the upcoming revamp in an interview with The Indian Express:

“We have deployed an omnibalance design as long as the X series continues to be available in the market. Also, we are planning to launch new generation of products and you can expect a completely new design from the devices”.

Mr Hibi states that Sony is looking to match rivals by adopting a nearly bezel-less design for the next generation of Sony phones, said to be released “soon”.

Should Sony not want to take advantage of the upcoming Christmas and holiday period, consumers can likely expect an announcement in early 2018, with a launch during Q1 2018.

Despite incorporating strong design, Sony’s phone sales have largely suffered from outdated designs. The company has clearly taken consumer feedback on board and is ready to embrace a new smartphone design.
