Sonos’ first mainstream speaker of 2026 has leaked early, the Play, which features a 24-hour battery and rugged IP67 rating.

The since-removed listing on Canadian Best Buy, which has been captured by multiple international outlets and Reddit users, points to a March 31 release date.

Australian pricing has yet to be confirmed, but it would likely position the Play between the $799 Sonos Move 2 and the more compact Roam 2 in the local market.

From the images and specifications published online, the Play appears to be a smaller, more portable take on the Move 2, complete with a rear carry loop.

Unlike the Move 2, however, it carries an IP67 rating for dust and water resistance.

Battery life is listed at up to 24 hours, doubling that of the Roam 2 and matching the stamina of the larger Move 2.

The speaker can also reportedly function as a power bank via USB-C, charging a phone when required. A wireless charging base is shown in product images.

Connectivity includes both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.3, allowing the Play to slot into an existing Sonos multi-room system at home before switching to Bluetooth on the move. AirPlay 2, Amazon Alexa and Sonos’ automatic Trueplay room tuning are all supported. An auxiliary input is also referenced, broadening its appeal to turntable and wired audio users.

The leak comes amid a delicate rebuilding phase for Sonos.

Earlier this year the company reported a sharp profit rebound under new CEO Tom Conrad (pictured), despite continued revenue pressure in Asia Pacific.

In January it returned to the custom installation channel with the Amp Multi, a rack-mounted amplifier aimed at professional installers.

Meanwhile, Sonos is preparing another app overhaul after its disastrous 2024 redesign triggered customer backlash, sales declines and executive departures.

This time, the update will be opt-in and extensively beta tested before full rollout.

The company also faced backlash in Australia last year, with specialist audio retailers calling for ACCC scrutiny over online sales restrictions they claim shift margin and customer relationships back to Sonos.

If the leaks prove to be accurate, the Play will mark Sonos’ first mass-market hardware launch since its 2024 reset.
