Sonos briefly disappeared from Apple’s App Store this week, triggering fresh concern among users already wary after the company’s troubled software overhaul last year.

For several hours, iPhone and Mac users were unable to find or download the Sonos app through Apple’s storefront. Attempts to open direct App Store links reportedly produced error messages, while manual searches returned no results.

Sonos later confirmed the issue through its system status page, warning customers they could experience problems downloading or updating the app while engineers investigated the fault. The company did not provide details about what caused the removal.

Although the outage was temporary, the incident quickly drew attention online because of Sonos’ recent software struggles. The company faced widespread criticism in 2024 after releasing a redesigned app that many users said removed core features, introduced bugs and created unstable performance across speaker systems.

That rollout significantly damaged Sonos’ reputation for polished software and reliable multi-room audio experiences.

The timing also fuelled speculation because reports have suggested Sonos is preparing another major app refresh, including a redesigned interface and additional iPhone features such as Live Activities support for Lock Screen controls.

After several hours, the app returned to Apple’s App Store and Sonos confirmed services were operating normally again.

While the disruption was short-lived, it underlined how closely Sonos’ software performance is now being scrutinised by customers still frustrated by previous app issues.
