Software Update Bricks Thousands Of Aussie Samsung Phones
A routine software update has resulted in thousands of Australian Samsung smartphone users being made utterly useless, with feared that content stored on the devices may have been irretrievably wiped.
Samsung Australia is fielded numerous complains about the update, but strangely claim it only seems to be impacting South Australian users.
“Samsung has received reports from customers of an issue when updating their phones,” Samsung Australia said.
“At this time, these reports are from customers based in South Australia only.
“We are continuing to investigate this matter.”
A disgruntled user told 7News she had been locked out since New Years Day, with call centres shut down during the period.
“I’m losing a lot of photos, mainly of the grandchildren, and contacts,” she said. “I’ll have to track down all my contacts again.”
It would be unlikely if the phones have been completely wiped, especially given it seems to be a region-based problem.
ChannelNews has contacted Samsung Australia for more information.
