Samsung Electronics credited its pursuit of premium products for its continued domination of the global TV market, which it has led for 16 consecutive years.
According to new figures released by tech tracker Omdia, Samsung holds a 29.5 per cent slice of global TV sales, and a market share of 19.8 per cent.
“Samsung Electronics propelled the number one position via a premium strategy centered on QLED TVs,” a Samsung spokesperson said.
“Since their launch in 2017, more than 26 million units have been sold.”
Of those 26 million sales, 9.43 million were from last year alone. QLED TV sales have risen exponentially since launching in 2017. In that first year, Samsung sold 800,000, rising to 2.6 million in 2018, 5.32 million in 2019, and 7.79 million in 2020.
This “premium strategy” is clearly working. Samsung sold 42.1 per cent of high-end TVs (priced over US$2,500) during 2021, and 44.9 per cent of 80-inch+ television.
