Samsung has begun rolling out its One UI 9 software update to Galaxy smartphones, bringing Android 17, expanded Galaxy AI capabilities and a series of new personalisation, security and productivity features.

Samsung has confirmed that the rollout is scheduled to begin from the end of September in Australia, starting with the Galaxy S26, Galaxy S26+ and Galaxy S26 Ultra. Availability can vary by device, market and carrier.

One UI 9 is built on Android 17 and represents Samsung’s latest software update for its Galaxy ecosystem. The company says the update is designed to make Galaxy AI more useful for everyday tasks.

One of the headline additions is My FanCam, which can automatically track a selected person in recorded video and keep them centred in the frame. The feature uses intelligent reframing to follow the selected subject as they move, with the idea being that there is less need for manual video editing. 

Samsung is also expanding Now Brief with generative and editable cards. Users can customise the information displayed in their daily summaries, including categories such as health, weather and video.

Another new feature of the update is Now Nudge, which provides contextual suggestions while users are using their phones. Samsung says the feature can suggest actions based on information appearing in conversations and notifications, including adding details such as appointments or addresses to other services.

The update also introduces changes to device care and privacy.

A new Warranty and Care section allows users to check warranty information, run diagnostic tests, view repair estimates and access Samsung Care+ or arrange service appointments.

Samsung is also adding stronger visibility around location access, with an indicator appearing when an application accesses a user’s location. The company says One UI 9 will provide additional warnings relating to potentially risky apps, malware, unnecessary permissions and other security concerns.

Samsung Health has received a redesigned interface and Accessibility has also been expanded, with features including Text Spotlight, Select to Speak and additional keyboard and mouse controls.

The update brings changes to the interface as well, including a redesigned lock-screen clock and further improvements to Samsung DeX.

Samsung originally announced One UI 9 in September and the rollout initially began with the Galaxy S26 series, before expanding to additional Galaxy devices. The company says availability will be staggered so Australian Galaxy owners may not all receive the update simultaneously.
