Samsung Marketing Probe Ends In Multiple Layoffs

Samsung has laid off marketing staff, following an internal audit of the division in its US marketing operation. The audit comes hot on the heels of last week’s abrupt departure of  Samsung’s chief marketing officer, Marc Mathieu.

Mathieu was instrumental in pushing Samsung to invest in the YouTube creator community and steered the company through several difficult periods. These include his handling of the Galaxy Note 7’s disastrous recall in 2016.

He also helped launch the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus the following year, helping to restore the company’s battered reputation.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Samsung was investigating whether or not its marketing staff had violated company policy on deals with business partners, but according to The Verge, the company said there was no wrongdoing.
