Samsung Leads J.D. Power Appliance Satisfaction Study In Six Categories
Samsung has emerged as the highest-ranked appliance manufacturer in the J.D. Power 2026 U.S. Appliance Satisfaction Study, securing the top position in six major product categories and reinforcing its reputation among consumers shopping for premium household appliances.
The Appliance Satisfaction Study, which analysed 28,411 customer evaluations from people who purchased home appliances during the previous 12 months, found Samsung achieved the highest customer satisfaction scores for French door refrigerators, side-by-side refrigerators, top-mount freezer refrigerators, clothes dryers and over-the-range microwaves. The company also shared first place with KitchenAid in the dishwasher category.
The survey was conducted between April 2025 and April 2026 and reflects customer opinions on product quality, ownership experience and overall satisfaction.
Refrigeration proved to be one of Samsung’s strongest areas. According to the company, its top-mount freezer refrigerators received the highest scores across all seven categories measured by J.D. Power, including durability, performance, ease of use, styling, features, value for money and consumer trust. Samsung said its clothes dryers also achieved top scores across each of those performance measures.

While Samsung dominated several categories, other manufacturers also performed strongly. LG claimed the highest rankings for cooking appliances including ranges and wall ovens, as well as top-load washing machines, highlighting the competitive nature of the home appliance market.
The Appliance Satisfaction Study also found that customer satisfaction has continued to improve despite consumers paying more for new appliances.
J.D. Power reported the average purchase price increased by US$54, bringing the average appliance cost to US$910, or approximately A$1,390. Even with higher prices, overall customer satisfaction rose by six points compared with the previous year, reaching 705 out of a possible 1,000.
Researchers attributed much of the improvement to better product durability and stronger retail experiences. Satisfaction with appliance retailers increased by 23 points to a score of 706, while 87 per cent of respondents reported completing their appliance purchase without encountering any significant issues.
The findings suggest buyers are placing greater emphasis on the complete ownership experience rather than focusing solely on product features. Factors such as product availability, delivery, installation, long-term reliability and after-sales support are becoming increasingly important when consumers evaluate major household purchases.
For retailers, independent customer satisfaction rankings can play an influential role during the buying process, particularly in categories such as refrigerators, dishwashers and laundry appliances where shoppers often compare brands based on reliability and owner feedback.
The results also strengthen Samsung’s position as it continues expanding its connected home ecosystem, artificial intelligence-enabled appliances and design-focused product portfolio. However, the study indicates that smart technology alone is not enough to secure customer loyalty, with durability, ease of use, value and trust remaining equally important factors.
Although Samsung claimed the most category wins in this year’s Appliance Satisfaction Study, brands including LG, Whirlpool and KitchenAid also achieved top rankings in individual product or retail categories, reflecting the highly competitive nature of the appliance industry.
As manufacturers prepare for the second half of 2026, Samsung’s strong performance provides a valuable marketing advantage, while retailers will be watching closely to see whether higher customer satisfaction scores translate into increased repeat business, fewer service calls and stronger consumer confidence.
