Samsung is entering the extended reality market, announcing a partnership with Google and Qualcomm at this morning’s Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked launch.

Samsung president and head of MX business, TM Roh, was joined on stage by Qualcomm CEO Christiano Amo, and Hiroshi Lockheimer, senior vice president of platforms and ecosystems at Google to announce the venture.

“We’re collaborating to bring next-generation experiences to other Galaxy products, including laptops, tablets, XR and more,” explains Amon.

“In XR, we’re working to create a new era of highly immersive digital experiences that blur the lines between our physical and digital worlds.

“We have the foundation to make this opportunity a reality and drive the future of the spatial internet.”

Lockheimer referred to AR and VR as “an exciting space where Google has been investing in for a long time, across both experiences and technology”, adding: “These technologies are integral to the new phase of computing, as it can change the way we interact with people and information to get things done in the real world.”

The announcement was short on concrete information as to what exactly the three companies will be developing together.

Qualcomm has a similar partnership with Meta, providing the chipset for the Quest Pro, so it seems likely a headset of some order is in the future.
