Samsung has officially named its long-rumoured virtual reality headset the Galaxy XR, with leaked details revealing the device aims to combine the best features of Apple Vision Pro and Meta Quest Pro ahead of a late 2025 launch.

According to Android Headlines, the Galaxy XR will feature 4K displays for each eye, run on Qualcomm’s latest processor, and operate on Android for familiar user experience.

The headset supports hand, eye, and voice controls while including physical controllers for additional precision.

At 545 grams, the device is significantly lighter than Apple Vision Pro, though battery life remains limited to approximately two hours per charge.

Samsung is collaborating with Google on the project, formerly known as “Project Moohan.”

The partnership aims to attract more developers to create XR applications, expanding options for work, entertainment, and social interaction beyond what competitors currently offer.

The Android foundation could enable better compatibility with existing devices and provide access to a wider app ecosystem compared to Apple and Meta’s proprietary platforms.

The Galaxy XR represents Samsung’s formal entry into the premium XR market currently dominated by Apple and Meta.

The device targets consumers seeking high-quality visuals and natural controls without the weight burden of current headsets.

Samsung has not announced an official launch date, though industry expectations point to late 2025.

Rumoured pricing ranges from approximately $2,500 to $3,000, placing the Galaxy XR in direct competition with Apple Vision Pro’s premium positioning.

The pricing strategy positions Samsung between Meta’s more affordable Quest lineup and Apple’s high-end Vision Pro, which starts at $5,999.

The Galaxy XR’s arrival marks the first major Android-based challenger to Apple and Meta’s XR platforms.

Success will depend on Samsung and Google’s ability to build a compelling app ecosystem and convince developers to support a third major platform in the emerging XR market.
