Samsung could be preparing to take its Galaxy Buds range in a new direction, with leaked images revealing what may become the company’s first clip-on wireless earbuds.

The product is reportedly called the Galaxy Buds On, replacing the Galaxy Able name that appeared in earlier leaks. Rather than sitting inside the ear like Samsung’s conventional Galaxy Buds, the new model appears to wrap around the ear in a jewellery-like design.

Images published by Android Headlines show the earbuds attaching at two points, with a speaker positioned on the inside of the ear and a second section wrapping around the outside. A visible microphone also suggests the earbuds will support voice calls.

The Galaxy Buds On are reportedly being designed around open-ear air conduction technology, which directs sound towards the ear without sealing the ear canal. This could allow users to remain more aware of their surroundings while listening to music, making the design potentially useful for walking, commuting and exercise.

Samsung may also be planning several smart features for the earbuds. Leaked information suggests users could control certain functions through head movements such as nodding or shaking their head, with the possibility of customisable gestures.

Automatic volume adjustment is also reportedly being considered, allowing the earbuds to respond when background noise increases. Voice assistant support could potentially include both Samsung’s Bixby and Google’s Gemini.

Another reported feature is sleep detection, which could automatically stop playback if the earbuds determine that the wearer has fallen asleep.

None of these features has been confirmed by Samsung, however, and important details including battery life, connectivity, audio specifications, pricing and launch timing remain unknown.

The move would put Samsung into a growing category of clip-on and open-ear audio products designed to offer an alternative to traditional in-ear earbuds. The approach prioritises comfort and environmental awareness, although open-ear designs can sometimes sacrifice some sound isolation and audio performance compared with sealed earbuds.

Samsung has yet to officially announce the Galaxy Buds On, so the final name, specifications and design could still change ahead of any commercial launch.
