At SmartHouse and ChannelNews, we review a wide range of notebooks—from Chinese brands such as Lenovo to American names like Dell and HP. But it’s the Taiwanese makers, particularly Acer, that consistently leave a strong impression.

Acer is a brand with decades of heritage, and unlike most of its competitors (with the exception of ASUS and MSI), its notebooks are manufactured in Taiwan—the same place where many of the core components used inside rival notebooks from Lenovo, Dell and HP are made. Taiwan remains one of the world’s most significant hubs for PC and component production.

After several weeks with the $1,998 16″ Acer Swift AI, I can confidently say it’s one of the best notebooks I’ve ever used—despite the occasional network connectivity hiccup.

Design & Build Quality

Two things immediately stand out: the AI performance and the stunning 16″ OLED display. If you’re choosing between the 14″ and 16″ models, I strongly recommend the 16″ version—not just for the screen size but for the overall experience.

The Swift 16 AI is remarkably light for its size. Pick up a comparable 16″ notebook from Lenovo or Dell and you’ll instantly feel the roughly 1.5 kg difference. Acer’s focus on portability really pays off here.

Closed, the Swift 16 looks sleek and sophisticated. The jet-black finish paired with subtle gold trim gives it a premium look, and the hinge allows the machine to fold fully open. Branding is minimal—just a small Acer logo on one side and the understated “AI dots” on the other.

AI & Software

This model is marketed as a Copilot+ PC with Microsoft Copilot integrated. Unfortunately, Copilot still feels underwhelming compared to alternatives.

My preference remains ChatGPT, which delivers a far better AI experience today.

As someone who is on a keyboard all day, I found the keyboard and trackpad excellent—responsive keys with a comfortable bounce, and a large trackpad with smooth tracking.

My review unit was powered by Intel’s Core Ultra 9 288V (3.30 GHz) combined with 32GB of memory. Performance was more than enough for daily workloads, content creation and running SmartHouse review assets simultaneously.

Display Quality

The real star of this notebook is the display:
a 16:10 OLED panel with a 3,840 × 2,400 resolution and up to 120 Hz refresh rate.

Expect:

incredibly vivid colours

deep blacks

around 420 nits brightness

superb ∼19,000:1 contrast

The only downside: the unit I tested wasn’t a touchscreen—something I genuinely missed.

With the generous 16″ display paired with its very manageable 1.5 kg weight, the Swift 16 AI offers the best of both worlds: large creative real estate without sacrificing portability. It’s so good that it raises the question of why Microsoft ever bothered competing in the low-end notebook market.

On a recent trip to Melbourne, the battery impressed as well, easily lasting through a full day of presentations—even with the OLED panel.

Performance & Portability

The Swift 16 AI uses Intel’s Lunar Lake architecture, with the Core Ultra 9 288V incorporating an integrated NPU for AI acceleration. It’s built for modern workloads, and Wi-Fi 7 support is a welcome future-proof addition.

Its form factor is noticeably more portable than many 16″ creator or gaming machines, providing big-screen usability in a surprisingly travel-friendly package.

Final Verdict

The Acer Swift 16 AI (Ultra 9 288V) delivers an excellent combination of performance, premium design, portability and modern features.

Its OLED display, lightweight build and strong connectivity make it a real contender in the ultrabook/creator laptop space.

On the downside Microsoft’s AI experience still has a long way to go—but overall, the Swift 16 AI delivers outstanding value. The best option is to log into Open AI ‘s Chat GPT which is superior to Copilot.

Recommendation:

If you want a large, high-quality display in a lightweight notebook at the right price this is an easy notebook to recommend.

This is an affordable premium notebook that has the looks, performance and is manufactured by one of the world’s leading PC Companies.
