Several companies are feeling the heat as a wave of product recalls hits Australia due to fire hazards.

Harvey Norman is recalling four styles of Matinee Home Theatre 4-seat sofas sold in-store and online. The affected models include black and light grey leather 4-seaters and Onyx or grey fabric 4 recliners with 2 consoles.

The recall comes after reports that the sofas’ electric cup holders may overheat during use, posing risks of serious injury, death and property damage. Consumers have been urged to stop using the products immediately.

Australian brand Zip Zap Chargers is recalling the Zap Pad wireless magnetic power bank 5000mAh (model ZZ-WMSPB-5K) sold between 15 October and 27 December 2023.

The lithium-ion battery can overheat during charging or use, creating a burn and fire risk. At least one incident has been reported.

Belkin has also issued a recall of its Auto-Tracking Stand Pro and two portable power banks – the BoostCharge USB-C PD 20K and Playa USB-C PD 20K – after overheating batteries caused fire incidents.

Globally, 16 incidents have been reported, including two minor burn injuries and US$37,765 (A$63,900) in property damage.

Belkin products have previously been recalled in Australia, including the BoostCharge Pro Fast Wireless Charger for Apple Watch + Power Bank 10K in 2024, due to overheating lithium-ion cells.
