Razer Phone 2 Leaked Ahead Of Official Launch

UPDATE: Razer has confirmed that the Razer Phone 2 is running Razer Chroma RGB, the camera specifications have been released, as well as more details on the battery capabilities.

Amazon Italy has usurped the official launch of the Razer Phone 2 revealing key details. The Razel 2 gaming smartphone features a light-up Chroma RGB logo, wireless-charging, and water resistance. Amazon Italy priced the device at €870.

As reported by GSMArena, Amazon Italy has prematurely revealed key specifications and details of the second generation Razer gaming phone. The listing has since been pulled, but not before the internet got its hands on it.

Razer CEO Min-Liang Tan said at the launch that “The first Razer Phone disrupted the smartphone industry and created a new category,” said Min-Liang Tan, co-founder and CEO of Razer Inc. “With the Razer Phone 2, we have pulled out the stops to define flagship and gaming on our terms.”

The design hasn’t changed too much from the original Razer Phone, the 5.7-inch LCD panel with QHD resolution remains, the biggest differences include the new position of the dual camera and the long-awaited RGB logo.

Razer confirmed at their launch that the new rear dual-camera offers a 12 MP wide-angle lens with optical image stabilisation (OIS) and a 12 MP telephoto lens with 2x zoom. The front camera features 8 MP that supports video streaming at full HD resolution, ideal for all live-streaming professionals.

Razer (confirmed) Phone 2 is now powered by Razer Chroma. The rear of the phone features Razer’s signature logo that glows in stunning RGB – in 16.8 million colours – to provide app notifications.

The Razer 2 also includes extra GPU power – necessary for any gaming phone worth its salt – through its Qualcomm 845 Snapdragon 845 chipset and Qualcomm Adreno 630 graphics processing unit (GPU).

Overheating can be an issue with gaming phones, especially when you are hours deep in a siege, Razer has improved their cooling apparatus with a “unique vapour chamber” which should keep the chip from burning out. Cooling feature confirmed at launch.

Its 1440p display can offer up to 120Hz refresh rates for more streamlined scrolling and gaming. This is the only 120Hz mobile screen on the market, pushing the Razer 2 out in front of its competition.

Razer is adding wireless charging to the Razer 2 (confirmed thanks to its glass back), a new feature that the previous model did not contain. Razer has confirmed that the phone can be charged via USB-C cable, and the Qualcomm QuickCharge 4+ allows users to charge the phone from a flat battery to 50% charge within just 30 minutes.

Razer Phone 2 is now dust and water-resistant (rating IP67) and the rear design is now glossy glass as opposed to aluminium.

The Amazon listing had the price at €870, this is unconfirmed as the correct pricing. Australian and New Zealand pricing and availability of The Razer Phone 2 will be announced at a later date.
