Q Acoustics Concept 300 Speakers Hit Aus

Q Acoustics’ Concept 300 loudspeakers have arrived in Australia, promising a “a step-change in loudspeaker design and a redefinition of what is possible” at its price point.

The Concept 300 speakers ($5,999) and their included stands use “innovative speaker technology” and a structural technique commonly used in bridges and towers known as “Tensegrity” to minimise vibration and deliver accurate sound.

The custom-designed stainless-steel tripod stands support the Concept 300 speakers in a way the company claims is “entirely new” in loudspeaker stands, using rods and cables to create tension and support.

The speakers also have an “Isolation Base”, which suspends the cabinets on springs over the stands.

Q Acoustics said the smaller surface area and suspension design of the stands reduce vibration and re-radiated sound.

The MDF cabinets, available in black & rosewood, silver & ebony, and white & oak colourways, house the 165mm mid/bass and 28mm high-frequency drivers, which are similar to those used in the Concept 500 floorstanding speakers but enhanced for the 300’s smaller cabinet.

The cabinets are also filled by a non-setting gel to dampen higher-frequency vibrations.

The frequencies cross at 2.5 kHz, and the drivers are separated by a rubber gasket to further minimise vibration.

Q Acoustics claim the speakers will handle power up to 200 watts (6 ohms) and frequencies from 55Hz-30kHz.

The company was founded in 2006 with the “sole aim” of developing “a highly successful best in class loudspeaker brand based on outstanding audio performance”.
