Prepare For A Smartphone Flood

SAN FRANCISCO/SHANGHAI: Telecommunication analysts are predicting that smartphone makers will flood the market with offerings as the coronavirus pandemic begins to ease.

Most of the top brands are grappling with plunging sales and, according to research outfit Counterpoint Research, are likely to flood the market with new devices, aggressive pricing and channel incentives.

Many major global smartphone brands – including Oppo, Vivo, Realme and Xiaomi – have suspended launches of their latest models.

Counterpoint Research has predicted a three percent year on year fall in shipments.

Meanwhile, Canalys expects a 4.2 percent decline, as consumers, hit by the global economic downturn, focus on non-essential purchases and conserve cash.
