As their name suggests, Polaroid are a company best known for the film cameras and accessories. Despite this, a trip through Big W or Woolworths might have you stumble across headphones and speakers with their branding plastered on the box.

As we mentioned in our review of the Polaroid Active Noise Cancelling Headphones, the company has sought to cater to a small gap in the market of those looking for headphones they can pick up quick and cheap, that will offer them a satisfactory listening experience. Being sold in Big W and Woolworths makes them easily accessible and suited for those looking for a cheap pair if they have forgotten theirs for the day or need something cheap and quick.

At $39, Polaroid’s Wireless Fold Headphones are rather inviting. Features listed include Dynamic Audio, Soft Padded Ear-Cups and an 8hr Battery. But are they actually any good?

Out of the Box

As with other Polaroid headphones, box offerings are rather basic, with the a Micro-USB charging cable, and AUX cable, a USB-C to Micro-USB adapter (which is strange considering there is no USB-C cable or port), the user guide and 1 year warranty, and of course the headphones themselves. For the price, this is about what you would expect. Packaging is also very basic, just a box with everything sitting in there roughly, no secure fitting solidness in sight.

Initial Feel

Compared to other offerings from Polaroids range of audio solutions, the Fold Wireless headphones feel decent. Still somewhat light and cheap, but much less rattley and tacky feeling. The ear-cups are indeed comfortable and padded, meaning wearing them isn’t a chore. While the ear-cups cannot be folded to the side, this is likely to improve stability and solidness, and they compact down well enough as they are. There are basic media controls with pause/play, next and previous, which is a nice touch. However, the white finish is likely to yellow and get dirty quickly, so I would recommend going for the black finish.

Setup

The Polaroid Fold Wireless Headphones are super simple to setup. Like all their headphones, holding the power button will enable pairing mode, where it can then be discovered easily.

Sound Quality

At $39, crystal clear audio can’t be expected. The lows and mids overtake the highs significantly resulting in a lack of clarity and an overall muddiness. That being said, compared to other headphones in the Polaroid range, including the more expensive ANC headphones, the sound quality is rather tolerable. While still muddy, everything is identifiable, even with older recordings.

Verdict

While Polaroids Fold Wireless headphones are far from the peak of audio quality, they are perfectly reasonable for the price. For those who need a last minute pair of cheap headphones, these are a pretty good option. They are available at Big W and Woolworths for $39.
