Pokémon Go Creators Open Pre-Registers For Harry Potter AR Game
Potterheads are about to become even more immersed in the magical world created by J.K. Rowling with the opening of the pre-register for Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, the latest AR game from Niantic.
Niantic is the company behind AR game super-successes Pokémon Go and Ingress.
Co-created by WB Games and Niantic, the new AR game features similar gameplay to Pokémon Go, including game maps based on the real world but with a magical spin.
In Harry Potter: Wizards Unite users will undertake the role of a wizard recruit of the Statute of Secrecy Task Force.
This group are working to solve a mysterious event which scattered magical artefacts and creatures all over the world, called the Calamity.
Much like in Pokémon Go, the aim is to “catch ’em all”, players will explore the real world looking for signs of magic, meeting iconic Harry Potter characters and magical creatures.
Potential scenarios include helping out the vanishing Demiguise from the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and duelling with You Know Who’s henchmen, the Death Eaters.
Other aspects of the game include being sorted into the four Hogwarts Houses and selecting a magical profession like an Auror — a wizard who battles against the dark arts.
According to Niantic, the AR game’s narrative is multilayered with multiple mysteries to unravel.
Harry Potter: Wizards Unite is expected to launch later in 2019, pre-registration on Google Play is available now, more information available here.
