LG Unveil Concept Pod-Based Ice-Cream Maker
At its SXSW debut, LG revealed a pod-style ice-cream maker begging the question: is this the next pod-based machine the company is working on?
The ice-cream pod machine, creatively dubbed “Snow White”, was spotted by The Verge’s Ashley Carman, who was in attendance at the conference.
At CES 2019, LG’s HomeBrew pod-based beer maker drew crowds with its bespoke capsules which contain malt, yeast, hop oil, and flavouring.
From its limited range and time required to brew a single beer, many questioned how a device like it could prosper.
But ice-cream is a much more straight forward endeavour.
Snow White appears similar in appearance to the HomeBrew with a touchscreen and silver/chrome finishings.
By the ice-cream maker were numerous capsules for sorbet, gelato, frozen custard, frozen yoghurt, ice-cream, and more.
In addition to the aforementioned bases, LG offered eight flavour options including vanilla, lemon, cookie dough, and mint chocolate chip.
According to Carman, the Snow White demonstrator wasn’t aware of which ingredients were housed in the capsules, except for “shelf-safe pasteurized milk” and failed to say how cold the machine could get.
Ice cream makers are not a new concept, but a pod-based one has the potential to make more of an impression on consumers than the HomeBrew.
As it is only a prototype, it’s unlikely it will be released anytime soon, and no pricing or availability details were provided.
In addition to the Snow White ice-cream maker, the company showed off five new LG CLOi robotic concepts, including one which can recognise human emotions.
