PayPal Cozies Up With Facebook

Internet payments giant PayPal says it is teaming up with Facebook in a bid to have its payments spread across a broader range of new online shopping deals. PayPal will also now make it possible to receive messages about any purchase, such as a receipt, through Facebook’s Messenger chat service.

Many experts see payments becoming integrated into social interactions, like chats or posts, which is commonplace in China. “Most of the tech ecosystem chooses to partner,” said Bill Ready, PayPal’s chief operating officer.

For now, Payments in Messenger is an alternative to PayPal’s own apps, including Venmo, popular in the USA. However the new partnership won’t extend to “P2P” (procure to purchase) payments, Ready said.
