Paramount+ is the latest streaming service to raise its subscription prices, following in the footsteps of Netflix and Disney+.

The price rise comes as the company rolls the Showtime suite of programming into its offering, bringing its ad-supported plan from US$4.99 to US$5.99 per month, and its premium plan, which includes Showtime, from US$9.99 to US$11.99.

Given that Showtime programming is under licence to Foxtel in Australia, it is unknown whether Australian audiences will cop a price increase.

Chief Financial Officer Naveen Chopra signposted a price rise during the company’s third-quarter earnings call.

“We definitely see opportunities to increase price on Paramount+,” Chopra said.

“And you will see us do that in the future. I think it’s fair to say that pricing is moving higher across the industry — you see that with a number of competing services, and we think that that means we have room to increase price.”
