Despite Australia being a strong Playstation market for Sony the Company appeared to have given OZ a miss for the launch of their new PlayStation Classic console, however, it is available for pre-order now at Big W, JB Hi-Fi, Harvey Norman, Sony and other select retailers ahead of its release December 3.

Tipped to be priced at $149 the PlayStation One Classic is almost half the size of Sony’s original 1994 console, making it small enough to hold in one hand.

The new console comes 24 years after the original release date for the console.

The Company who are copying arch-rival Nintendo who also released miniature versions of two of its classic consoles to much success.

The Nintendo SNES Classic Mini has sold 5.28 million units worldwide since its launch in September 2017.

The new Sony offering comes preloaded with a slew of nostalgic hits from the system’s original back catalogue and for those who are travelling over the holiday break you may be able to pick one up from overseas.

The games include Final Fantasy VII, Tekken 3, R4: Ridge Racer Type 4, Jumping Flash! and Wild Arms.

All of the pre-loaded games will be playable in their original format,’ the company said.

The device also has two controllers and an HDMI slot, which is used to connect the updated 1994 console to modern HD TVs.

The controllers are full-size replicas of the PS1’s original gamepads they don’t include analogue sticks or vibration.

And because the console uses an internal software database of games — players will not need to manually swap-out disks.

Instead, the open button on the PS One Classic switches virtual discs, while the ‘reset’ is used to quit games in progress.
