Oz Business Still Lagging On IT: ABS
Some 94.7 percent of Australian businesses now have Internet access – but only 48.6 percent have a Web presence and just 33.8pc of them receive order by the Internet, according to new figures from the Australian Bureau of Statistics.
Stat’s latest Business Use of IT report for the period up to and including the 2014-15 financial year was published yesterday. It says the greatest change in business use of IT between 2013 and 2015 was in the proportion of businesses with a social media presence – but this was still only 34pc of all businesses.
During the year ended June 30 2015, Stats’ results show that more than half of all Aussie businesses placed orders by the Internet – but this varied tremendously according to industry.
The professional, scientific and technical services industry fared best with 74pc; transport, postal and warehousing industries were at the bottom on 33pc. Information, media and telecoms scored 45pc. More IT-focused days may lie ahead: the report indicates 21pc of businesses have innovation in development, most in marketing methods.
Stats says more detailed estimates will be released in Innovation in Australian Business in July and selected characteristics of Australian business will appear in August.
