Part two of its omni channel investment, which includes same day delivery in Sydney for $24.95, is being rolled out today in Sydney, and goes national this Thursday.
The new delivery service also a drop ship service to customers, delivering direct from suppliers.
The department store’s Click & Collect service, flagged as “shop online, pick up instore’ allows consumers order, pay online and pick up from any of its 36 stores next day, if ordered by 12pm. National delivery takes 3-7 business days.
DJ’s “customers want it” – 30% of whom currently access the site via mobile, a spokesperson told CN.
The high end retailer is looking to repeat the success of overseas retailers who saw uplift in sales following the launch of similar service, the company rep said.
It gives users more options in the multi-channeling age, and the click ‘n collect is handy for workers in CBD areas to order online and pick up during work hours.
However, DJ’s next-day delivery doesn’t come cheap – delivery via Australia Post, costs $19.95 for metro areas, while same-day delivery is $24.95 for the Sydney area.
Standard Delivery (within 3-7 business days), DJ’s “most economical delivery option”, ships from its Sydney Fulfilment Centre, is free for over $50 purchases. Regional areas take longer.
However, rival pure player, The Iconic, offers a faster next-day delivery to Brisbane, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth customers (on ordesr before 2pm) and for the rest of Australia items arrive within 2-4 business days shipped from partner suppliers.

DJ’s is also launching “drop ship” capability, delivering furniture, large appliances items direct from the manufacturer for a cost of $50, cutting warehousing demands.
“We have achieved this in just under 17 months since announcing our future strategic direction plan in March 2012,” DJ CEO Zahra told AFR.
Shares rose 2.96% to $2.78 today.
