Oppo has begun testing a new foldable smartphone that could challenge Samsung and Motorola as competition heats up in the rapidly evolving foldable handset market.

The Chinese smartphone maker has teased its upcoming Find N6 foldable ahead of its official launch on March 17, highlighting a thinner and lighter design along with support for a stylus — a feature Samsung recently scaled back in its own flagship foldables.

Samsung removed the S Pen digitizer layer from its latest Galaxy Z Fold 7, arguing that stylus usage among foldable owners was limited and that eliminating the layer helped engineers achieve a thinner design and reduce the display crease.

Oppo appears to be taking the opposite approach.

In promotional material shared on X, the company revealed that the Find N6 will support the Oppo AI Pen, suggesting it has solved the engineering challenge of integrating stylus functionality without compromising thickness or display quality.

The teaser also offered the first glimpse of the device’s design. The Find N6 closely resembles the previous Find N5, featuring a large circular camera module on the rear with Hasselblad branding, continuing Oppo’s partnership with the camera manufacturer.

The variant shown in the teaser features a bright orange finish paired with a gold metal frame, while Oppo confirmed the phone will launch in two colour options: Blossom Orange and Stellar Titanium, a silver-toned model.

According to the company, the device will open completely flat, feature a creasing-free foldable display, and include a 200-megapixel Hasselblad “ultra-clear” camera system.

Oppo has also confirmed that the stylus will be sold separately. The Oppo AI Pen will require a compatible phone case to charge, according to details published on the company’s website. Full details of the stylus features have not yet been disclosed.

Foldable smartphones remain a small but growing segment of the global smartphone market, dominated by Samsung’s Galaxy Z series. Motorola has also gained traction with its Razr foldables, particularly in the mid-range segment.

With its emphasis on thinness, stylus support and high-end camera hardware, Oppo appears to be positioning the Find N6 as a premium alternative in the category.

Oppo says the Oppo Find N6 has been designed with a new engineering approach that combines a titanium alloy hinge with a special memory glass layer.

Together, these components aim to reduce the crease and maintain a flatter display surface even after prolonged use.

The hinge structure reportedly distributes physical stress more effectively when the phone is folded or unfolded. Meanwhile, the memory glass is said to restore the display’s flatness after opening the device. Oppo suggests this design could significantly reduce the crease visibility compared to earlier foldable phones.

More details about the device — including pricing, availability and the full capabilities of the AI Pen — are expected when Oppo officially unveils the Find N6 next week.
