Online Sales Up, But Overall June Electronic Sales Dropped
Sales of electrical and electronic goods via retail outlets fell 0.1 percent in June , according to the latest retail trading report by the Australian Bureau of Statistics.
However online retail turnover continued to grow in importance, contributing 4.1pc to total retail turnover in June, Stats said.
This came as general Australian retail turnover rose 0.3 percent in seasonally adjusted terms, according to the latest ABS retail trade figures, following a rise of 0.6 per cent in May.
It might not have been good news for the IT industry, but Stats noted that the latest figures mark three consecutive months of growth in spending after a rise of 1pc in April, which was the biggest jump since late 2013.
In seasonally adjusted terms, overall turnover rose 1.5 per cent in the June quarter 2017, following a rise of 0.2 per cent in the March quarter 2017. The largest contributor to the rise was household goods retailing, up 2.5 percent.
