‘On-The-Run’ John McAfee Set To Star At Sydney Event
The organisers of StartCon have snared entrepreneur John McAfee to be a “star presenter”. McAfee has announced plans to run for president in the 2020 presidential election. His primary platform is to promote the use of cryptocurrencies. He stated that he will either again seek the nomination of the Libertarian Party, or form his own party.
The now 74-year-old McAfee first won fame as developer of the McAfee anti-virus software, which was later acquired by Intel. His wealth was said to have peaked in 2007 at $100 million, before his investments plummeted in the 2007-08 financial crisis.
McAfee next turned up dramatically on the run from Belize police, who said he was a “person of interest” in connection to the murder of American expatriate Gregory Viant Faull, a neighbour of McAfee on the Caribbean island.
McAfee escaped and fled to nearby Guatemala, where he was arrested and later deported to the USA.
In January this year, McAfee revealed that he is now on the run from US authorities and “living internationally” on a boat. Nonetheless he has proclaimed himself as a 2020 US presidential candidate – in the unlikely event that he wins, he will presumably conduct state business from his boat, tossing about in international waters.
