OLED Breakthrough: Samsung Display Tops 700-Nit Full-Screen Brightness Milestone
Samsung Display has achieved a new OLED brightness milestone, with its latest tandem OLED panels exceeding 700 nits of sustained full-screen brightness for the first time.
The news comes just a couple of months after it was reported the first OLED panels had exceeded 500 nits.
Notably, the latest OLED panels are now brighter than most LCD displays, with the breakthrough addressing this longstanding perceived weakness of OLED.
The OLED panels have earned VESA DisplayHDR True Black 1400 certification, which requires at least 700 nits full-screen brightness, 1,400 nits peak brightness (10% window), and ultra-low black levels.
Samsung Display says the gains come from its tandem OLED architecture, which uses two emissive layers to increase brightness, improve power efficiency and extend panel lifespan.
The company claims the new displays can deliver up to 1,600 nits peak brightness, around 40% higher than previous single-stack OLED laptop panels.
According to Samsung, referring to full-screen brightness rather than peak brightness is a more meaningful way of measuring real-world performance as it better reflects the everyday productivity and content consumption.

The first products featuring the new panels will come from Lenovo, Asus, Dell and MSI, with Lenovo’s Yoga Pro 9i Aura Edition set to be among the first.
The initial rollout of the technology will target premium laptops, although the technology is expected to influence future OLED monitors and eventually televisions as brightness performance continues to improve.
This milestone further narrows the performance gap between OLED and Mini LED/LCD displays, reinforcing OLED’s position as the premium display technology for both consumer and professional devices.
