Oculus: Gear VR Used By Over One Million People Last Month

Almost half a year on since its launch, more than one million people used the Samsung Gear VR headset, powered by Oculus, last month.

Oculus has announced the milestone via a blog post, noting that developers have created more than 250 apps for the Gear VR, bringing a range of experiences to users.

Oculus states that virtual reality video “continues to be one of the most popular experiences on Gear VR”, with seven of the top 10 most-used apps being videos while, on any given day, nearly 80 per cent of people using the Gear VR do so to watch video content.

In the coming weeks, Oculus states that Facebook will add 360 photos to its News Feed, with users able to explore Facebook 360 photos in virtual reality from the Oculus 360 Photos app.

Meanwhile, in June, an updated design for Oculus Home on the Gear VR will be introduced.

“This new environment will rollout to everyone and make it easier to find your recently downloaded content so you can quickly jump into VR,” Oculus states.

A “What’s New” section and a revamped library in the Oculus mobile app will arrive this week, helping users to find and discover new games and experiences.
