New Compact Square Samsung Smartphone Tipped Go With Fold

Samsung is set to finally roll out a reengineered version of their problem plagued Fold, but here at IFA 2019 in Berlin the big buzz is that a new collapsible device is in the making.

The new device is believed to be foldable phone that can scale down to a ‘compact square that easily fits into a pocket. The device will have a 6.7″ inner display that can be easily folded up into something like a clamshell.

The good news is that the device is set to be significantly cheaper than the $3.5K Fold with some suggesting an $2,000 price tag.

For the last few months Samsung has been working to fix problems that cause critical flaws in Folds device’s display with the new device set to be revealed at a press event on Thursday morning Australian time.

Journalists who received review units ahead of the Fold launch reported experiencing issues with the interior screen. The display would flicker and go black and within days Samsung recalled the Fold.

Despite being a foldable device the new Samsung ‘Fold V2’ will have an array of cameras on both the front and back, including a hole-punch style front-facing lens like the one that appears in the newest addition of the Galaxy Note.

There will also be two rear-facing cameras which will have different functionality depending on how the phone is positioned — folded open, the device will be able to use both cameras, but with one half folded shut, users will be limited to only one.

Bloomberg claims that one major advantage the phone will have over Samsung’s Galaxy Fold will be its shape.

Samsung’s newest project will fold out into what is essentially the shape of a normal smart phone meaning developers won’t have to design custom aspect ratios for apps on the device like they do with the squarer Galaxy Fold display.
