Movano Develops Smart Ring For Women

California-based health company Movano has unveiled its first smart ring, designed exclusively for women, to track their health, fitness, and cycle.

The device named Evie is designed to track heart rate, heart rate variability (HRV), blood oxygen (Sp02), temperature, sleep, sleep stages, activity, calories burned, steps, distance travelled, menstrual cycle, ovulation, and mood.

Made from metal with a resin inner section, the ring has been designed with a slight gap for a comfortable fit.

It’s important not only for comfort, but also because you’ll have to regularly take it off to charge. There will be a choice of silver, gold, and rose gold finishes, and in sizes between 5 and 11.

The company is currently in the process of gaining approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for Evie to help give the smart ring credibility. So far, the device has already passed its blood oxygen tests and has been tested on a variety of different skin tones.

However, Movano CEO Mastrototaro claims that it is not strictly a fitness tracker like a Fitbit or Apple Watch.

He explained: “One of the things we heard when we spoke to over a thousand women about this product is that they said the world is their gym, meaning they’ve got a very active lifestyle with work, with family, with children, with other activities in their life. And so they get their activity in a number of different ways through the course of the day, and we want to consolidate that for them.”

Evie strives to compete with the Oura ring- which only provides wearers comprehensive health data with a monthly subscription- by making the ring more affordable with a price bracketed under $400 and no subscription plans.

Its launch is estimated to be this year though the exact month of release is still unknown.
