Mobvoi’s Smartwatch To Hit Apple Where It Hurts
After finding success in local markets, Mobvoi are set to bring their affordable smartwatch to US markets.
Called the Ticwatch 2, it boasts voice, touch and gesture control – and a mighty $200 price point.
Mogvoi describe it as “A smartwatch with everything you want” and are currently raising further funds for the second-generation of the device on Kickstarter.
The Chinese start-up is led by a number of ex-Google talent, with Alphabet’s recent investment in them marking their first direct investment into China since 2010.
During last years Singles Day sales, the first-gen iteration of the device was the third-best selling smartwatch behind Apple and Motorola’s respective efforts.
Whether this success can be replicated in US markets is uncertain.
While the price point will certainly help, the smartphone market itself dropped 32% in the last quarter with customers holding off.
Still, with an expected RRP of $200, it’s very possible it could hit Apple where it hurts.
