Midea is expanding its Australian laundry line-up with two new appliances aimed at households looking to reduce energy use while adding more automated washing and drying features.

The Midea 210 Front Load Washer and 210 Heat Pump Dryer will be available through Bing Lee, priced at $1,099 and $1,449 respectively.

The launch comes as household energy costs continue to influence how Australians use major appliances. Research cited by Midea found 39 per cent of Australians now wash clothes exclusively using cold cycles, while one-quarter rely on line-drying.

Midea’s new washer uses a BLDC inverter motor designed to reduce noise and energy consumption. Its Power Mix technology combines detergent with water before it reaches the drum, creating foam that is distributed across clothing to improve cleaning while reducing detergent residue.

An Auto Dispenser determines the amount of detergent required based on the size of each load, while users can manage settings and receive detergent and softener alerts through the Midea SmartHome app.

The washer also includes a 365mm-wide drum and five water-flow modes designed to replicate different hand-washing movements. Its Low Profile Wave Impeller creates water movement intended to clean clothing while reducing water consumption and protecting fabrics.

For households short on time, a 15-minute cycle handles smaller loads, while Turbo Wash can complete a cycle in around one hour. Midea claims the latter can reduce washing time by up to 30 per cent without compromising cleaning performance.

A Tub Clean function uses water heated to 90°C to flush between the inner and outer drums, helping remove lint, detergent residue and bacteria. Steam sanitisation is claimed to eliminate 99.99 per cent of bacteria, while the washer has also received Woolmark Green certification for wool garments.

The accompanying Midea 210 Heat Pump Dryer carries a 10-Star Australian energy rating and uses a dual-inverter heat pump system. It can dry a 3kg load in 59 minutes, according to Midea.

Rather than relying on high drying temperatures, the heat pump circulates warm air at lower temperatures to reduce the risk of shrinking or damaging clothing. Built-in sensors adjust drying time and temperature according to the load.

The dryer also includes a self-cleaning condenser that uses collected water to flush away lint, reducing the amount of manual maintenance required. A reversible door allows it to be configured for different laundry layouts.

When paired with the Midea washer, AutoLink technology can match the drying program to the preceding wash cycle. SmartHome connectivity also provides notifications, scheduled completion times and downloadable drying preferences.

Additional features include wool, kids wear and bed linen modes, Sensor Dry, UV sanitisation and an anti-crease function that continues operating for either 30 or 120 minutes after a cycle finishes.

Both appliances use weather-resistant materials designed to resist yellowing, rust and wear, potentially making them suitable for laundries exposed to more demanding environmental conditions.

The Midea 210 Front Load Washer and Midea 210 Heat Pump Dryer are available in Australia through Bing Lee, with recommended retail prices of $1,099 and $1,449 respectively.
