McIntosh has unveiled its new flagship MX124 A/V Processor, targeting luxury home cinema installations with 13-channel audio processing, support for four subwoofers and 8K video connectivity.

The MX124 can manage 13.4-channel systems, including 7.4.6 and 9.4.4 speaker configurations, doubling the number of independent subwoofer outputs offered by its MX123 predecessor.

It supports Dolby Atmos, DTS Pro, Sony 360 Reality Audio and MPEG-H Audio, with nine 32-bit digital-to-analogue converters handling audio processing.

The MX124 is a processor rather than a traditional A/V receiver, meaning it does not include built-in amplification. Buyers will need to connect separate power amplifiers or active speakers, adding significantly to the overall cost of a complete system.

Room calibration is handled through included licences for Dirac Live Room Correction and Dirac Live Bass Control, while Audyssey MultEQ XT32 is also supported. The systems are designed to improve speaker integration, tonal balance and bass consistency across larger rooms.

For video, the processor includes seven HDMI inputs and three HDMI outputs, including one with eARC. All seven inputs support 8K video at 60Hz and 4K at 120Hz, alongside Dolby Vision, HDR10+, HLG and IMAX Enhanced.

Gaming features include Variable Refresh Rate, Auto Low Latency Mode and Quick Frame Transport.

Streaming support covers Apple AirPlay, Bluetooth, Qobuz Connect, Spotify Connect and TIDAL Connect, while the unit is also Roon Ready and supports high-resolution playback at up to 32-bit/192kHz.

McIntosh has also included web-based configuration, backup and restore tools, RS232 and IP control, and Control4 certification for professional installations.

Additional connections include four digital audio inputs, one balanced and eight unbalanced analogue stereo inputs, component and composite video, and outputs for two additional audio zones.

McIntosh has not announced official Australian pricing or availability. Overseas retailers have listed the MX124 at US$15,000, equivalent to about A$21,400 before local taxes and distributor pricing.
