Loewe has entered the premium wireless, over-ear headphone market with the (lower case) leo.

It is the new flagship headphone from the German brand.

It is clearly pitched as a standalone hi-fi audio solution for buyers who would have previously considered getting their industry-leading audio equipment from the likes of Apple, Bowers & Wilkins, Focal, and Mark Levinson.

Leo uses 50mm drivers with an Olefin Composite Elastomer diaphragm. Loewe is talking up the resulting “superior sound”, promising clear vocals, detailed highs and smooth, controlled bass.

The wireless audio uses the newer LC3+ Bluetooth format, which can carry more detail (up to 24-bit/96kHz). This translates to better-than-usual Bluetooth sound when your phone or laptop supports it.

The Loewe app also includes a brief Mimi hearing test that creates a profile for your ears and automatically adjusts the tuning.

Connectivity ticks all the boxes.

You get Bluetooth LE Audio for more efficient streaming, multipoint connectivity so you can stay connected to your phone and laptop simultaneously, and support for Dolby Atmos spatial audio in apps and tracks that offer it.

Noise control is handled by adaptive ANC that listens to your surroundings and adjusts on the fly.

The premium headphone market is getting increasingly crowded

Loewe claims up to 65 hours of playback with ANC switched off; in real-world use, this time will be lower with ANC on, but it still falls within the category of long-lasting devices.

Controls include physical buttons and a tactile rotary wheel located around the ear cap.

The device features a USB-C port, and the box includes two cables: a USB-C to USB-C cable and a USB-C to 3.5mm audio jack cable. (It’s not currently clear if fully lossless wired playback is supported.)

Loewe is also leaning into AI features. The leo offers live translation and related smart functions, which will invite comparisons with the translation features Apple is bringing to its latest AirPods.

Loewe has signed up two big names to act as global ambassadors – football star Kylian Mbappé and world-famous DJ and producer David Guetta.

“With Loewe leo, we’ve created more than just headphones,” said Aslan Khabliev, CEO & Owner, Loewe Technology.

“David and Kylian embody the spirit of Travel Beyond Sound: moving through the world while being transported by the immersive, precise sound of Loewe. Their stories show how music and performance merge into a single, powerful journey.”

The design follows Loewe’s luxury playbook, featuring premium materials and a finish tailored to the same audience that purchases the brand’s high-end TVs.

Loewe is clearly targeting the top tier of the wireless headphone market. The leo lines up against AirPods Max, B&W Px8, Focal Bathys, and Mark Levinson No. 5909.

If Loewe’s tuning and ANC execution deliver as promised, leo could be a credible new entrant in a fiercely contested category.

These are Loewe’s first mainstream, over-ear headphones.

However, as Channel News has reported, the company recently partnered with Jacob & Co. on some ultra-luxury, limited-edition bejewelled headphones.

The headphones will be available in Australia at all high-end authorised Loewe retailers from November 2025.

Colours available in midnight blue and moonlight beige for a recommended retail price of $1,999.
