IFA 2014: Huawei Sapphire Phone Trumps iPhone 6 + 6″ ‘Phablet’

IFA 2014: Huawei Sapphire Phone Trumps iPhone 6 + 6" At IFA 2014, Huawei unveiled Ascend P7 Sapphire Edition, a limited edition series which will debut in China in Q3, next.  


The rose coloured phone sports a big 5-inch sapphire full HD display, runs on 4G LTE networks and is an Android KitKat 4.4 device.  

The P7 original model was released recently in Australia, and is one of the world’s thinnest smartphones at 6.5mm. Sapphire glass, one of the worlds most “scratch-resistant” material, is “expected to be the screen of choice for premium handset device in 2014,” says the Chinese maker who is making major inroads into the smartphone market, globally. 

Huawei says details about international availability will follow.The screen is crack resistant, superior thermal and infrared conductivity. The manufacturing of a sapphire screen involves the production of ultra-thin material several- hundred micrometers slim, crafted from sapphire crystal that is created in a furnace.

G7 Ascend 

Huawei’s G7 Ascend has a 5.5-inch HD screen, 4G LTE Cat4 connectivity, 13MP rear-facing camera, and runs Qualcomm MSM8916 quad-core 1.2GHz chipset. 

It also has an eco-efficient setting which operates for an additional 24 hours on just 10% battery power.

The phablet style device metallic unibody design and sleek frame is made using the world’s leading Nano Molding Technology (NMT).

Hauwei also unveiled a 6-inch Ascend Mate7 ‘phablet’ which runs an octa-core chipset, 4100 mAh battery.

Mate7 also saves up to 50% of the battery by automatically using smaller A7 cores to power standard apps that consumers use at least 80% of the time. 


It has a 13MP rear-facing camera that works well in low lighting with Sony’s 4th generation BSI sensor and f/2.0 aperture and a 5MP front cam. 

Mate7 (2GB RAM and 16GB ROM) is 499 euros, while Mate7 (3GB RAM and 32GB ROM) is 599 euros. No local pricing is available.
