LG Unveil 5G V50 ThinQ And Palm-Reading G8
LG has used Mobile World Congress (MWC) to unveil its first 5G smartphone – the V50 ThinQ 5G – alongside its new G8 ThinQ with palm sensor. Both handsets will be available from Telstra this year.
The LG V50 ThinQ features a 6.4-inch QHD+ OLED FullVision Display with 19.5:9 aspect ratio.
Powered by Qualcomm’s newest Snapdragon™ 855 Mobile Platform and Snapdragon X50 5G modem, the device claims to deliver the advanced processing power required for 5G.
The device’s whopping 4,000mAh battery claims to be 20% larger than the predecessing V40 ThinQ, with a new Vapor Chamber heat-dissipation system to keep internal temperatures low, and support multitasking.
Audio has also been upgraded with DTS:X technology, pledging surround sound with clarity and depth.
The phone also supports Qualcomm® aptX™ and aptXHDaudio technology for premium Bluetooth listening.
As previously rumoured, the new V50 ThinQ 5G will feature a ‘Dual Screen’ as an optional accessory. Designed to mimic a cover case, the accessory gives users the ability to harness a second 6.2-inch OLED screen for enhanced viewing, gaming and multitasking
Both screens can be used independently – e.g. watching a movie on one screen, whilst surfing the web on the other.
Functionality harnesses a combination of ToFZ Cameras and infrared sensors, which pledge to offer better security than fingerprint recognition.
The Korean giant asserts unlocking takes a “split second” after users place a pre-registered hand in front of the front-facing camera.
Incorporating an advanced Z camera, the device claims to measure infrared rays reflected off subjects to calculate depth quickly and accurate.
The camera sees objects in 3D, with the hardware’s ToF technology unaffected by ambient light.
Z Camera also offers ‘Air Motion’ , enabling users to answer/end phone calls, take screenshots and plus without touching the device – e.g. waving a hand or pinching the air.
The new LG G8 ThinQ is also the first G series device to harness OLED display technology.
