LG To Showcase 5G Phone At MWC 2019

LG Electronics will reportedly unveil its first 5G smartphone – equipped with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 855 – at Mobile World Congress next month.

Incorporating Qualcomm’s fastest chipset yet, LG asserts Snapdragon 855 is 45% faster than its predecessor – e.g. facilitating immersive high-resolution gaming and better multi-app usage.

Designed to reduce overheating, the phone claims to feature a ‘vapor chamber’ 2.7 times bigger than the LG V40 ThinQ, coupled with a 4,000mAh battery.

The news comes as LG seeks to resurrect its struggling mobile division, with rivals such as Huawei and Samsung also unveiling 5G smartphones this year.

While LG intends to launch its 5G phone in America and Europe in partnership with local telcos, Australian availability is yet to be confirmed.

Announced at CES 2019, Telstra CEO Andy Penn has revealed its secured exclusive access to 5G smartphones from the “world’s biggest brands” during the first half of the year.

The news follows reports LG will also unveil a ‘foldable phone‘ and gesture controlled device at Mobile World Congress.

The trade show will be held in Barcelona between February 25 – 28, 2019.
