Lenovo is rejoining the high-end convertible laptop segment with a new ThinkPad X13 that aims to take on the existing dominant devices: Apple’s iPad Pro and the Microsoft Surface range.

Whether the American computer manufacturer can crash the Apple-Microsoft party with a new entrant remains to be seen, but it is prepared to have a go.

The publication Windows Latest has released leaked specs and images of the new ThinkPad X13 Detachable Gen 1. It sports thinner bezels around a 13-inch display, USB-C ports on both sides, a 3.5mm headphone jack, a Kensington lock slot and a magnetic detachable keyboard.

There’s apparently a dual Windows Hello authentication through the inclusion of an IR camera and fingerprint reader, and a camera privacy shutter at front.

“Because the kickstand is a thin edge of metal, it digs into your legs if you wear shorts, and it isn’t stable on uneven surfaces (like your lap). It wobbles if you type vigorously while it’s balanced on your knees,” the publication says.

“In case you haven’t noticed it earlier, the Lenovo ThinkPad X13 Detachable’s magnetically attaching keyboard looks weirder than the one on the Surface Pro, even the newer ones.”

That’s not a good omen for taking on the iPad and Microsoft Surface devices but time will tell.

The four screws on the bottom panel hint at the X13 offering repairability.

However, little is known about its performance capability, only that it may sport Intel Panther Lake-era chips. Nothing about battery life either.

The device is expected to be announced ahead of or at Mobile World Conference, in early March in Barcelona.
