Knock Off Apple AirPods Recalled After Fire Hazard

The consumer watchdog has warned a pair of knock off AirPods sold at Officeworks are dangerous and could potentially start a fire.

According to the ACCC’s product safety portal, AirPod lookalikes the OTTO True Wireless White TW100 rechargeable earbuds may cause a fire if the charging cord overheats and burns through.

“The USB charging cord included with the Otto True Wireless Earbuds White TW100 may overheat and burn through,” the ACCC said.

“If the charging cord overheats and burns through, this may cause a fire, increasing the risk of serious injury or death.”

The Chinese-manufactured earbuds were sold nationally at Officeworks stores from July 14 until October 20 this year.

Consumers have been told to immediately cease using the charging cord and return the product to Officeworks for a full refund.
