Hit Game Series Gets Long-Awaited Remaster

Blockbuster game franchise Mass Effect is getting a facelift, with a remaster coming to current-generation consoles next year.

The Mass Effect Legendary Edition will encompass all three games of the original trilogy including downloadable content, remastered and reoptimised for 4K gameplay on PS4, Xbox One, and PC; there will also be forward compatibility and additional enhancements for the PS5 and Xbox Series X.

According to Casey Hudson, VP and Studio GM of BioWare, the remaster comes after years of player demand.

“Our goal was not to remake or reimagine the original games, but to modernize the experience so that fans and new players can experience the original work in its best possible form.

“It’s been amazing to see the adventures of Commander Shepard take on new life in super-sharp resolution, faster framerates, and beautiful visual enhancements,” he said.

Hudson added that the “next chapter” in the Mass Effect franchise is also under development.

“We are in early stages on the project and can’t say any more just yet, but we’re looking forward to sharing our vision for where we’ll be going next,” he said.

The most recent instalment in the series, Mass Effect: Andromeda, launched in 2017 to a lacklustre reception due to bugs and gameplay issues.
