Apple Music Has 11 M Trial Members Just Over A Month Since Launch
Eddy Cue, Apple’s senior vice president of internet software and services, told USA Today Apple is “thrilled with the numbers so far”.
Of the 11 million members, Cue stated 2 million have opted for the family plan, with Apple offering both a single membership and a family membership for up to six people.
By way of comparison, in June Spotify advised that it had reached more than 20 million subscribers and more than 75 million active users.
Having launched Apple Music on June 30, Apple is offering users a three-month free membership, with it now remaining to be seen how many users stick around to become paying membersfollowing expiration of the trial period.
Australian pricing for the single membership is $11.99 per month and for the family membership $14.99 per month.
“It’s respectable, but it would be more respectable if they were a new service that was just starting and people had to trust them,” Ted Cohen, a former music executive and now managing partner of digital entertainment consultancy TAG Strategic, told Reuters of Apple Music’s membership numbers.
Cohen told Reuters that, based on typical industry conversion rates, it would be impressive for Apple to retain around 20 per cent of its members.
